Riders Head to the ASPCA Maclay Championships After Competition at The St. Louis National Charity

St. Louis, MO - September 16, 2019 - Competition wrapped up at the historic St. Louis National Charity Horse Show, held September 11-15, 2019, featuring the $50,000 Grand Prix and the Region 5 ASPCA Maclay Championships at the National Equestrian Center in Lake St. Louis, Missouri. Blair Spencer of Pinehurst, North Carolina, ended Saturday night at the top of the qualifying list and will now head to the championships at the National Horse Show in Lexington, Kentucky, on November 3, 2019. A selected number of riders from each region continue on to the national championship to compete against the best riders in the country for the coveted title. The St. Louis National Charity Horse Show congratulates all the qualifiers and wishes them the best of luck at the National Horse Show.

Charlie Jayne and Tou La Moon Win $50,000 Mary Keirle Grand Prix

On Sunday, Charlie Jayne of Elgin, Illinois, and Alex Jayne's Tou La Moon took home the top prize in the $50,000 Mary Keirle Grand Prix, a Rolex/USEF Show Jumping Ranking List Event. Hunter Holloway of Topeka, Kansas, and HB Investments' Pepita Con Spita finished in second and Holloway with Lucky Strike, owned by Hays Investments, rounded out the top three placings in an exciting class. Tailgaters cheered their favorite pairs from a ringside spot.

Earlier in the week, Sarah Mechlin Duhon and Inescapable, owned by Robert McCormick, stole the show, winning the $5,000 3’ Hunter Derby sponsored by Waterway Carwash and Stange Law Firm. Sarah Young and Ainsley Wade's Baudelaire took second and Elizabeth Nestor rode Covert to third place.

David Beisel claimed the victory in the $5,000 Welcome Stake on the nine-year-old chestnut mare, For Sunday, owned by Harlow Investment Enterprises while Holloway once again followed right behind to take second and third with veteran Lucky Strike and VDL Bravo S respectively, both owned by Hays Investments.

Charities Benefit

Since 1856, the St. Louis National Charity Horse Show has brought together thousands of the best equestrians and equines to compete in one of the nation’s greatest horse shows. The event benefits two of the region’s charities: TREE House of Greater St. Louis and Stray Rescue of St. Louis, donating more than $115,000 over the past several years.
