USEF licensed official Diane Carney reviewed the judge's cards with the riders after their performance in the show ring at the Galway Classic. Long Grove, IL – Sept. 27, 2021 – The annual Galway Classic wrapped up another educational weekend for riders at Lorrie Canady’s Galway Farm in Long Grove, IL. The weekend began with a clinic day with USEF Licensed Official Diane Carney including a dinner and a “Media for Athletes” presentation by Brenda Mueller of Marketing4Equestrians. The event concluded with a show day, where Carney provided feedback to riders on their performance in the ring. Canady always makes the event special with great hospitality and amazing awards in addition to the education. “This year the event really reached multiple levels of riders from some just starting in the show ring to some heading to the indoor finals,” said Canady. “Diane (Carney) always does a great job with creative courses, and she encourages riders to reach for the next level. It’s always a fun event and riders walk away with fresh goals for the upcoming season.”
"Lorrie (Canady) often has a full-barn and public events at her farm. Clinics are good for so many reasons such as another person's focus on basics, exercises that encourage concentration, a variety of gymnastics and jumps, and it's a good reason to clean up your facility annually. All this and more is achieved year after year with Lorrie and I am honored to teach there anytime," said Carney.
Carney designed unique jumps and a challenging course that carried over from clinic day to show day.
Carney has received numerous awards for her dedication to the sport and education. A multi-talented horsewoman, Carney judges, teaches clinics, provides livestream commentary, and coordinates sales and investments of grand prix horses across the country. Carney will be providing commentary for the Prix de States and the USEF Dover Medal Finals at the Pennsylvania National Horse Show this year. She has judged the ASPCA Maclay Medal Finals among other prestigious competitions listed on her resume which can be found at telluridefarm.com.
Sunday featured the Galway Farm Junior and Amateur Equitation Classics and the Galway Farm Junior and Amateur Hunter Derbies. Numerous special awards are handed out in addition, thanks to generous sponsors.
Kelly O’Bryan and Class Act won the Amateur Equitation Classic sponsored by Rebecca Ray and presented by Galway Farm trainer Lorrie Canady. Earning the top prize in the Galway Farm Amateur Equitation Classic was Kelly O’Bryan riding Mary Beth Canfield’s Class Act. O’Bryan was ecstatic to walk away with the gorgeous Rebecca Ray Handbag, courtesy of Rebecca Ray. O’Bryan did say she was willing to share the handbag with some of her close riding pals! “Class Act (aka Fitzy) and I are brand new partners. We’ve only been a pair for about two months now. He was Molly Canfield’s Jr. Hunter, and she recently went to college at Baylor,” said O’Bryan. “I love that he can be a goofball on the ground and when I’m in the saddle he is game on. “Diane (Carney) was able to tune me into my new partner, Fitz, to be able to understand that he doesn’t need my guidance with my hands - he wants the guidance with my legs. I learned a lot that I will be able to take with me throughout the season as Fitzy and I move up to the three foot Adult Hunters.”
Eva Orlando and Diacando won the Junior Equitation Classic sponsored by Voltaire Design. Riding to the win in the Galway Farm Junior Equitation Classic was Eva Orlando aboard Diacando, owned by Taylor Harris. Orlando was excited to win the amazing Voltaire girth and signature bag, donated by Voltaire Design.
Kelly O’Bryan and Class Act won the Amateur Hunter Derby sponsored by Equo. O’Bryan was on a roll as she claimed the victory in the Galway Amateur Hunter Derby with Class Act. O’Bryan added a pair of Equo 714 Breeches to her collection, thanks to Anna Dulin and Equo Performance Apparel. Dulin has been a supporter of the event since its inception in 2016. Dulin’s love of horses and involvement in the horse world was her inspiration for creating the line of apparel for athletes and comfortable everyday leisure-wear. Galway Farm thanks Equo and Dulin for their continued support of the event.
Eva Orlando rode Diacando to the win in the Junior Hunter Derby sponsored by Equo. Orlando scored her second victory in the Galway Farm Junior Hunter Derby with Diacando. Orlando has a paint hunter named Speechless she shows in the hunter divisions but rode Diacando as she would like to get more experience in the equitation and jumper rings. Orlando also has an adorable horse named Jack Frost that she leases to June Knudson, who also rode in the clinic, which was Knudson's first clinic experience. The long list of special awards is made possible by generous sponsors and recognizes the efforts of those who excelled in other areas during the weekend. Awards included, Leading Trainer, Leading Professional Rider, Best Turned Out, Most Improved Rider, and Judge’s Choice Award. New this year was the Galway Moving Up Award, which recognized the big efforts of riders who are just beginning to hit the show ring.

Chase Miller clinched the Best Turned Out Award and tub of every horse’s favorite Pouwer Patties. Pouwer Patties is a consistent supporter of local events in the area and has also been a sponsor of the Galway Farm event since 2016.
Claire Deegan with Ontario took home the Judges Choice Award and a gift certificate to Saddler’s Row. Deegan rides with trainer Grace Scheffler at White Oak Equestrian.
